It was announced today that Mass Effect 3 has been delayed into the first quarter of 2012. Making it’s release window sometime in the first 3 months of next year. Everyone seems to be fairly upset by this news. Honestly, I think that it just so happens to be a good news.
Think about the amount of games and all around content that releases in the last quarter of the year. Tons of games high profile and shovel ware all the same. Yeah, sure this year seems to have some big games dropping, off the top of my head is SkyRim. In my opinion I think it would be a shame to have a such a rich franchise like Mass Effect wrap up in the middle of all of the Holiday releases. Apparently, I’m not the only one who sees it this way.
Take in the fact that Spring has became the new Fall as far as game releases. Yeah, sure some high profile games seems to stick to the formula of a Holiday release, but recently we have seen games like LA Noire and Brink decide to make their debut in Spring months and are receiving great hype and reviews. It seems that releasing a game earlier in the year may be the way to go. Granted I’m sure the Holiday option will always be there and popular, but with more time and attention being placed on titles in the Spring months, BioWare made a great choice to move the conclusion to the wonderful franchise to next year. Not only from a selling stand point, but from a gamer stand point. More time to take it in and enjoy it before the next big title drops 7 days later.
