I spent most of this year working a very temporary job with the US Census Bureau. While the money was very, very good. I still did not go crazy in places like Best Buy or GameStop. Well, not in the sense of buying games anyway.
I have bought maybe four games this year. That number will likely not rise above six or seven though the rest of the year. That is including Reach as well as Fable 3. My reasoning is simple in my mind, but I’m sure I’ll find plenty of people who disagree. Five days ago I turned 30 years old. Now, for a while now I have had a different perspective on gaming and gamers as a group. I think as most people know as you get older the way you see things change. Little did I know that the way I seen my gaming life would change to such an extent. This Revelation if you will, that I had came to me while paying off my Legendary Edition of Reach. Right as I handed the dude at GS my money it occurred to me. What the hell am I doing?
I have reached a point in my gaming life that I don’t need to have huge collectors editions or fancy boxes to make the game as fun and appealing to me as it would be in a normal package. Granted, I did buy the Reach console, but that’s a different story. On an average there are 150 games that come out a year. That’s only counting the ones that get plenty of press. Out of these games that hit every year truth is there are only about 10 that are worth the $60 dollars I pay for them. So what I have decided to start doing is only picking the games that I feel will be ‘game changers’ so to speak. Something that is worth my while. I hear people talk all the time about having games they have yet to play. I don’t want to be that person.
I have a busy life and to boot not much time to play games anymore. So the games I do play need to be worth my while as well as worth the money. Bottom line is that as much as I love to game. I realized that just this year alone. I will be spending 1500 to 2000 dollars just on the few games that I buy. Of course that includes consoles as well. How much money will you spend on gaming this year?
