When I first started playing this game I was not very impressed to say the least. The only thing going through my head was the fact that if I had paid 1200 points for this game I would have been pissed.

After picking it up again sometime later I started to realize that this game was turning out to be a great little RPG. It seems that the longer you play it, the more addicting it becomes. You start the game off with your brother/sister (depending on who you play) being taken by candy stealing monsters. Obviously, this is your main quest in the game. Not only to save your sister, but to stop the monsters and save Halloween. Along the way you will gather patterns for Halloween costumes that you will have to gather the materials to make. After gathering the items you will construct a new costume that you will be able to wear. While you are out you will run into other kids, some that will join your party and others just to lead you down the right path or simply just there a NPC.

You Trick or Teat at neighborhood houses and even the mall, but not every time you knock on a door will you get candy in your bag which you also use for currency. Sometime monsters will already be at the location you are at trying to steal more candy. At this point you will cut into a very animated cut scene and your Halloween costume becomes an Epic real life suit of armor, giant robot or even a unicorn. This is where the turn based battles take place. Every battle earns you a creepy treat as well as XP to level up. Going into battle requires strategy and button control. You buy ‘battle stamps’ with your candy that will give you very traditional abilities to you costume like ability to dodge or increased attack. In the mean time you are constantly gathering side quest to complete and constantly figuring out where to go next.

One of the complaints I had with the game is that it is a text only game. There is no voice acting in the game. That may be a good thing in a traditional sense, talking about RPG’s, but considering there is no way to control the speed of the text it can get boring at times. All in all Costume Quest is a great RPG to be a downloadable title. I still, even after beating the game don’t think that’s it’s worth the hefty price tag of 1200 points or $15. It takes around 5 to 7 hours to complete and has a great playability to it. It has two avatar awards to unlock if you are playing on the Xbox. If you have the money to spare Costume Quest is a great pick up and play RPG that should not be missed.
