I have always loved Pinball games and never thought that video games gave the game justice. That is until I reviewed the Marvel DLC for PinBall FX 2. I was sold! Needless to say that when I started reviewing the MARS table I was excited.
When first loading up the table you can really feel the environment kick in. From all of the lights to the shear coloring of the table. It all feels very Sci-Fi and keeps to the theme very well. Even the music has a very Martian sound to it. It really keeps you in the spirit of the table. Then when you launch that first ball and get things going you realize what Zen Studios were going for when they built this table. It’s a very different experience from all the other tables that are featured in the game.
When you first start playing the table it almost seems boring until the shuttle lands that is. From there you can trigger several things that serve up to be what I would call mini quest. Similar to all the other tables in Pinball FX 2 you will have to aim your ball at certain points on the table to do tasks that will either score you loads of point and achievement or maybe both. From there, you just play Pinball. Of course as with any of Zen’s tables there are all sorts of fancy moving objects and in this case even a Spider Droid that will save your ball from time to time. You really start to feel the theme of the game when the Zero G kicks in. Occasionally, you will find that when you have multiple balls on the table that Zero G kicks in and that changes the game more than any other table that Zen currently offers.
All in all the table is worth the MS points asked for it. It carries 3 new achievements as well as a multiplayer aspect. When making the purchase you must keep in mind that replay may be scarce because it’s only one table. But the play time you get out of it will be well worth the money you spend on it.
