Courtesy of Nippon Ichi Software, a new Playstation 3 title has just emerged called The Awakened Fate Ultimatum. The story centers aound an average high school student named Shin Kamikaze where he gets murdered. He is then resurrected by a group of angels to serve as God, thus requiring him to become strong so as to develop himself into the ultimate fighter against the devils. You are greeted by both an angel named Jupiel Soraumi, who is here to help you to become God, and a devil scientist named Ariael Agarie, who is the one that created the Fate Awakening crystal that is responsible for making Shin a God.
The gameplay involves going through the mystery dungeon where you will encounter randomly generated floors and end up fighting against enemies. Along the way, you will be picking up items in order to make it to the next floor as well as eventually clearing the dungeon. Some will even have a boss on the top level that you will have to defeat.
All enemies in the game can be categorized as either in the group of angels or devils. There is quite the variety with each having their own set of qualities and attributes in their angel and demon forms. One thing to note is that the more enemies you face, the more difficult it can get. I find that facing 3 or more enemies at one time will get you defeated very quick. You can be doing very well and then all of a sudden, you can find yourself killed and, consequently, lose all your items, which is a total drag!
Rest assured, the more you level up your character, the easier you can get through the dungeons. So it’s not all doom and gloom if you find yourself defeated at certain points in the game. Also to point out that there are shops after you clear a dungeon or you die. Here, you can purchase new items which are handy if you find yourself stuck and need to equip yourself with better stuff. You’ll just simply need to repay old dungeons and get your items that way. On top of that, you can save the game anytime before you enter into a dungeon.
In terms of the presentation, The Awakened Fate Ultimatum looks kind of decent for a Playstation 3 title. While the 3D models of the dungeons aren’t necessarily going to impress, the graphics still do the job adequately with the nice color variations. It’s a pity that there isn’t much variety in terms of how the enemies look, but the cute Anime style has a nice touch to it.
As for the audio, the voice acting could be executed a little better. As well, a majority of the soundtrack aren’t that memorable although they set the mood well. Sometimes the music can be repetitive at certain points, but the audio overall is passable.
The Awakened Fate Ultimatum shows a lot of promise in terms of the amount of adventure and challenges that await players. While the storyline may not be as extensive and the characters can be quite two-dimensional, the game still has quite the appeal especially to fans of the anime genre. But if you want to ensure you’ll get full enjoyment from this Playstation 3, I suggest you try this out first to see how you feel before making the purchase. It can be quite the entertaining game, but only if it fits well with you.
