The past couple of years have been a let down in comparison to the past years I remember. Last year the game market picked up with some huge releases. The movie industry on the other hand still was a let down. In this post I am going to combine the movie industry and the gaming industry to talk about this year’s very promising releases.
To start with, the movie industry. I started by taking my better half to see Fast and Furious on her birthday. I was very impressed with what I thought was one of the funnest movies I have seen in a while. Considering it’s the 4th one in the series, it still holds it’s own. I just watched the ShoWest footage from Transformers yesterday. Very impressive! Be sure to give it a look. Also movies coming down the pipe such as G.I. Joe, Public Enemies, Terminator:Salvation, Inglorious Basterds, Up, Star Trek and that’s just to name a few. I have high hopes for the summer movie craze more this year than I have in a long time.
Now, on to what really matters: the game industry. Wow is all I can say. I’m not sure what to be more excited about, the future of DLC for the rest of the year or the awesome releases that are yet to come. In the coming months as far as DLC is concerned we have a lot to look forward to. To start with Criterion has more game changing content for Burnout:Paradise, which has been the longest supported game on any next gen system. Then more content for games like Fable 2, Fallout 3, Gears of War 2, Midnight Club LA, Left 4 Dead, GTA4 not to mention the weekly Guitar Hero and Rock Band DLC. Get those Credit Cards or Microsoft points ready.
Now the game releases are even more to talk about. So many games that we have waited on and anticipated will come out before the end of this year. Everything from new IP’s to sequels to huge franchises. This year may be the year to be a gamer. Now I know they say that every year, but this year might be the year that it’s true. Developers like Rockstar, 2k Interactive, Ubisoft, Bungie, Capcom and Gearbox have promised some of the earliest hyped games I have seen in a long time. Most of these games won’t even release till the end of the year, yet the hype machine is already running. Really though, if you think about it hype may just be in order for games like this.
Fuel, Halo:ODST, Red Dead Redemption, I am Alive, Assassins Creed 2, BioShock 2, Punch Out Wii, Ghostbusters, Champions(360), The Beatles:Rock Band, Infamous, Prototype, Fight Night 4, Brutal Legend, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, Batman and that’s just naming a few of the ones that have been announced. So it could be easy to imagine that this year may be an unprecedented year for both gaming and movies. The good news: We get to enjoy it all. The bad news: The cost of enjoying it all.
