gore vision: Get Offline

Saturday we/the site had a Halo 3 game night planned that did not go that well. Now I can’t speak for everyone else, but we had an awful storm here in my area and I lost my internet connection. Even though I missed the game night, I had a lot of fun with no internet.

I had forgot the joy of playing offline. It’s fun to just play a game for your self and not worry about carrying your weight for the team or making sure you don’t mess up in that last second. Playing for myself and no one else. If I did not like the way I done something, I just simply went back and done it again. To say hey I have to pause to go get a drink or answer the phone. To actually hear someone when they say something to me. To be interested in something besides what is on the screen and not worry about it. All these are just a few of the things that I missed about playing offline games.

I think that it’s pretty clear that 90% of all games are going to online features. Some games focus strictly on online feature. While others have single and multi-player, but only have a following because of the online gaming aspect. Take for example Modern Warfare 2. Sure it WILL be an awesome game. Really though, how many of you are buying it for the single player campaign? My bet is not many. Not that I don’t want it for the multi-player too, I just think that peeps seem to forget about some great single player games.

One of the best single player games I have played on this generation of consoles is BioShock. Now the second in the series is being released. Of course they had to throw in the multi-player. Now correct me if I’m wrong, but I can’t remember one single person bitch or complain that the first one needed more than single player. I can actually remember people say that the game was perfect and they where glad it had no multi-player. So why the hell add it in the second one. Is it just a ploy to try and make more money or is it just a bone head decision?

So many people call themselves gamers these days that you can’t say that one person is not compared to another. I think that a lot of people are shunned upon because they may not be good at getting head-shots or they might have problems scoring a touchdown against an online opponent. I bet if you watch that person play they have their own ‘special’ thing that they are good at.

So the next time you decide to play online, think about breaking that connection and just play alone. You might just remember why you become a gamer in the first place. Then again you might just think all this is a load of s***. Never hurts to try though.
