Chaos Code is a fighting title that originally made its appearance in the arcade and later on made its way onto the home console of the Playstation 3. Fast forward to today and we have ourselves a revamped version called Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe available for the Playstation 4 as well as for the PC steam. This time though, you’ll be able to compete online at the comfort of your home rather than waste away at your quarters.
Speaking to the specifics of the gameplay, Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe is a four-button fighting title where you land both punches and kicks against your opponents along with special moves and combos. The commands that are required to pull of these special moves are conveniently displayed on the sides of the screen.   There is a chaos gauge that eventually builds up. Once filled, you can pull of even more powerful attacks. If you are familiar with the Street Fighter type of games, then Chaos Code should be easy for you.
In this title, you have 16 characters to select from. Now that’s talking diversity in terms of fighter style choices and appearances. You’ll have some characters holding swords, and a duo that work in pairs. The character designs are appealing and manage to keep things lively. Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe does have plenty of game modes too to keep you preoccupied, although not a lot of them have much variety or distinction from each other.
What really kept me going with this game is how you have different stories and insights to each character. This also means having the opportunity so see different endings as well as purchasing a large number of extras with the in-game currency that you accumulate. These can include the ability to change the announcer’s voice along with the appearance of your characters.
The use of the anime-style graphics really makes the game looking wonderfully splendid. This is especially the case when you have special effects happening in the backgrounds along with the fighting sequence animations running smoothly. Do note that the whole fighting gameplay does not take on the full widescreen. Instead, as mentioned earlier, you have the sides of the screen showing the commands instructions. It does give that retro arcade feel, but to some, this may be viewed as a graphical hindrance. Audio-wise, the music is top notch while the sound effects keep everything exciting.
Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe may not be the most advanced looking fighting title out there, but it still offers a solid gameplay and sets of challenges that will keep you busy. And with the online capabilities, you’ll be able to test your skills with others non-stop. So whether you’re a fan of the anime style or just like to kick some butt, Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe could offer a “new sign” of enjoyment.
