Over Rated For The Win

Some games are overrated right?  That’s a common fact in the game world.   What I don’t like is when better, more deserving games are looked over for those games.  I have a couple of examples I want to talk about in this post and I know it will rub some people wrong.

Gears of War 1 and 2.   There are two of the most over rated games in the history of video games.  Gears of War would have been a phenomenal launch title for the 360.  Because it was not a launch title I really don’t think it is as good as most people lead it on to be.   It was nice-looking and had a certain unique twist on aspects of game play.  That’s about all though.  The multi-player was glitched and the game itself was really kind of weak.  On top of that the story was not an award winning story to say the least.

Now Gears 2 will hit in just a matter of days.  Once again people are foaming at the mouth.  When you break it down it is the exact same game with better graphics.  Oh yeah, we can’t forget about that new 5 player game mode horde…..Anyway, I just think that with games like this game and the one before it, other games that are much better are looked over.  I’m not just picking on Gears. There is another game out there that may be the most overrated game of them all. Halo 3.

That’s right, I said it.  I think that Halo 3 is the most overrated game that has hit any platform in the last ten years.   I’m not taking nothing away from the game.   It’s a good game for about two weeks.  After that it just loses it’s luster.   I can’t understand how a company like Bungie can keep making the same crap over and over again and keep selling it.  Granted it had some nice features (I.E. theater mode) so it was really original and all but come on.  It is not the best FPS out there but yet it is treated like a God among games.  I guess what I’m getting at is there are a whole lot of games out there that should keep their momentum going but do not.  Because of overrated games like the ones I talked about.

I guess when it comes down to it you like what you like.  That’s fine.  That is what keeps the gaming world so interesting.  Just remember whether or not you like or dislike a particular game, you should not take other games for granted.

I can assure you, posting this blog on the release day of Gears of War 2 was not a coincidence.  I would also like to clarify that I’m not trying to take anything away from any of the games I mentioned.  Just being honsest.
